HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!
Last week was my birthday. I am now Medicare Certified!!! The self-imposed “milestone” hit me not when I woke up on my birthday, not when I went to work on my birthday, not when Gordon hugged me and said “happy birthday”, but while I was sitting by myself watching a new movie (highly recommended on Apple: Mayday) – I was giggling (trying to be quiet because G had gone to bed – 4AM wake up call!), and bursting into laughter occasionally then stifling it … and then I got philosophical and felt so warm and fuzzy that I was by myself and HAPPY.
The best birthday present ever in my whole life – from me to me, is being happy. I don’t know how this old soul figured it out at about 10 years old…but on my birthday then, when I blew out the candles, I silently wished to be happy. Every year henceforth, I either blow out a candle or simply take note that the ONLY thing in life worth wishing for, or being, is happy and at peace. If the only thing you ever wish for is to be happy, then whatever comes your way you’ll figure out how to be happy. Happy doesn’t mean “serve yourself first”. Happy means finding out what you love and figuring out how to incorporate it into your life; finding kindred souls and filling your life with them and making sure you pepper your plate with others that stimulate you and make you THINK. It means making sure you taste other flavors, new and different flavors literally AND figuratively.
You might end up gracefully putting the mouthful into your napkin (or just gagging it out if you’re a heathen), but make sure you’ve TASTED it fully before you reject it!
There are a few flavors that I say over and over that I could bathe in. The stuff that makes my mouth sing. Here are pictures of two them – Pollo Tonnato and Hanky Panky Stew, along with Gordon. I bathe in him every day and am so grateful he feeds my soul. Happy Birthday to ME!
